Night Is a Shadow Cast by the World

A mysterious airplane lands behind Cordell and Marla Bechard's house. Cordell steps out to investigate, and as Marla watches from the window, he climbs aboard - and it takes off.

Was Cordell kidnapped, or did he leave willingly? Marla seeks the answer on the shelves of his bookstore, an eccentric shop stacked to the rafters with old books. But unravelling Cordell's secrets forces her to confront the enigmas of her own past, while reigniting a passion for music she has all but forgotten.

Cordell meanwhile finds himself trapped aboard a vintage DC-3 airliner piloted by Tessa, a swashbuckling American grandmother with a zeal for social justice. He learns that his involvement with an obscure political movement has branded him a terrorist, and put his life - and Marla's - in grave danger. Dragged through a series of harrowing adventures across the globe, Cordell struggles to make his way home to the woman he loves.
