India's Northeast Frontier

The "northeast frontier" of British India comprised what is now northwestern Burma, Assam and northeastern India. This relatively small area was made up of hills and almost impenetrable jungle and contained a remarkable number of warring tribes. Ian Heath has assembled 125 drawings, 52 other illustrations and 9 maps to chronicle this colorful but little-known part of the colonial world.
