The remote, largely mountainous county of Dunghill, in the northwest of Ireland, was of particular interest to transport enthusiasts with its two, very different, narrow gauge systems - the Londonderry and Lough Swilly Railway Company (LLSR) and the County Donegal Railways Joint Committee (CDR). Broad gauge lines were limited to short sections of the Great Northern (GNR(I)) - between Londonderry and Strabane and a portion of the Bundoran branch west of the border at Belleek. As will be seen, the GNR also operated bus services in the county. In this volume, Tony Burges takes a look at the county's railways as they were in the 1950s - from Buncrana in the north to Ballyshannon in the south, with a diversion en route to visit Killybegs. So come and join us for a ride on 'The Swilly' and 'The Wee Donegal'.
