The Titan: The Critical Edition

Theodore Dreiser's 'The Titan' receives in this Critical Edition the benefit of Roark Mulligan's superlative historical notes and commentaries. An experienced archivist, he has a strong grasp of Theodore Dreiser's compositional methods, as well as the ability to navigate among the various manuscripts and correspondence that preceded the first edition of the book. Mulligan's choice of copy text is in itself exceptional: the 1914 copy proof, a version of the novel that, until this edition, was in a private collection, unknown even to Dreiser scholars.
