Hunting in the Lake District

"There is a proud tradition of hunting in the Lake District, and for good reason: those ominous crags and wooded valleys below have hosted some of the most exciting hunts in history.

This is the home of John Peel, of such famous hunts as the Blencathra, the Melbreak, the Cumberland and the Eskdale & Ennerdale.

The people of Cumberland have hunted the fox, the hare, the otter, the polecat and the pinemarten. They have done so with footpacks, with mounted packs, with famous foxhounds, beagles and terriers.

The Fells, the Lakes, the woods and the village inns have all played their part in some of the most memorable accounts which are recorded here.
