In 1919, stealing money to escape a violent, abusive father, sixteen year old May Sharpe flees her native Ireland to chase her dream of finding a new life in America. But, arriving penniless in New York, May has to make a stark choice, between living an honest life in poverty, or crime. Within two short years May becomes the toast of the city's criminal community. But, at the height of her success, May is forced to re-examine her morality, and loyalties, and make a decision which could threaten, not only her new-found fame and fortune, but her young life.
