World of Finance, a massive investment company, is teetering on the point of implosion. Controlled by the elusive, brooding Baroque, its Ponzi structure is irrevocably unravelling. But not before it can suck in the naive and amoral – and destroy them.

In this mordant satire of international investment, Shelby Tucker introduces a hilarious – at times heart-breaking − cast of characters: among them ‘Bone’ Saxon, an ingénue American football player with a broken leg, sent to sell Plans on the Indian subcontinent and Belvedere Beauchamp, Oxford graduate, restless, indifferent, inveterate traveller and the only one who manages to avoid Baroque’s trap.

Set in the sixties, Tucker draws on brief experience as a Financial Counsellor in Bernie Cornfeld’s Investment Overseas Services, a lucrative financial confidence game, which, like WoF collapsed catastrophically. Client Service cleverly weaves travel stories from across the globe into the plot, reflecting Tucker's indefatigable love of the open road.
