Totem and Taboo

Freud saw strong parallels in neurotic, child and 'primitive' behaviour, and boldly proposed that the distant past was molded by humanity's deepest urges. It is an astonishing theory, combining such disparate concepts as Animism, the Primal Horde, Totemism, Cannibalism, and the Oedipus Complex to explain the origin of civilisation and religion.
