The Sleeper Awakes

Arguably the starkest and most pessimistic of Wells' early dystopian novels. Graham, the protagonist, falls into a coma-like sleep and finds himself 200 years in the future and owner of half the world. A despotic 'Council' rules in his name over the masses who have no rights and are fed incessant propaganda. Appalled, Graham strives for change.
