California Missions: A Traveler's Guide

Between 1769 and 1823, a handful of Spanish men, led by the illustrious Fray Juniper Serra, set out to tame the wilds of Alta California and establish a chain of missions to serve as the spiritual backbone of the land. The Spaniards built a total of 21 missions.
