Three years in the making, this 384-page guidebook - issued in 5½ by 8½-inch format - is the first-ever major full-color book on the subject. A few smaller guidebooks about hiking Bitterroot Mountain trails have previously been published, but there are no other books about climbing these spectacular summits. Filled with full-color photographs and illustrations of a quality usually reserved for coffee-table books, this offering has moved the bar for guidebooks to new heights.

Research for this book required several climbing seasons, one of which included more than 600 miles of hiking and climbing. The portion of the Bitterroot Range along the west side of Montana's fabled Bitterroot Valley is not only one of the most popular hiking and climbing destinations in the American West, but also a mountain range of historical significance. Members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition traveled along and through these mountains during 1805-06 on their epic journey of discovery.

This guidebook includes route-specific information about the route type, class level, required effort, summit elevation, elevation gain, and distance. Full-color topographic maps and route profiles complement the clearly-written route descriptions.
