Mary Lou Hattery, who has studied cooking in France, compiled a collection of French recipes. Photographs for the covers are ones taken by Joan Liffring-Zug Bourret while on a barge trip on the river Seine north to Normandy, accompanied by her spouse, Dwayne, and friends. The cover view of the Eiffel tower at midnight was exciting and best taken from the middle of the river. The Eiffel tower with the Statue of Liberty replica is inside the book.

Listing of recipes includes:
Hors d'oeuvres, soups, salads, vegetables, meat, fowl, fish, desserts, and other finales.

The Eiffel Tower
Alexandre Gustav Eiffel (1832 1923), an engineer and contractor, was known for wrought-iron lattices in bridge construction. He was awarded a contract to design the 985-foot tower for the Paris Exposition of 1889. Created from exposed iron, the tower was initially controversal, but became a world-famous symbol of Paris. Illuminated at night, the tower is beautifully reflected in the river Seine. The front cover view of the tower was taken from the deck of the Anacoluthe barge in the middle of the Seine.

The Fleurs-de-lis
Based on the iris, this design was used in the French coat of arms in the sixteenth century. The original French banner featured many fleurs-de-lis. The back cover of this book shows the fleur-de-lis in a castle window in France.
