Frank L. FitzSimons, in 1922, proposed an open-air farmers' market in Hender-sonville, North Carolina, in a letter to The Hendersonville News. Noah Hollowell, publisher of the newspaper, became an enthusiastic advocate of that proposal. Their joint efforts led to the founding of the Curb Market in 1924.
The Curb Market still hums with local homegrown and homemade offerings by vendors who descend from the original farm families who started it. Others have joined the Market to sell their wares, making the Curb Market a unique, historic landmark as well as a vital business in today's community. The Henderson County Curb Market: A Blue Ridge Heritage is the story of this revered institution.
