Roy McBride, spoken word performer, poet, visual artist, visionary, master improviser, teacher, and musician, was a fixture on the Minneapolis arts scene for thirty years. A mentor and inspiration to many young African American poets, he expressed his passion for humanity, his anger at social injustice, and his playful appreciation of urban life in a variety of ways, anticipating the coming era of poetry slams, hip-hop, and performance art. Here the best of his literary works are gathered together for the first time, accompanied by a selection of Roy's drawings and a 30-minute DVD by Mike Hazard that captures the flavor of his inimitable street performances.
