Established in 1760, the parish of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church started in a mere log cabin and was known as the Union Church. Built by Lutheran and Reformed congregations, the logs were painted red and for many years it stood as a symbol of Christianity for many of the early inhabitants of Manchester. Though there have been several buildings since the original log cabin was built, the mission has been the same; to make Christ's name known in the world. Two-hundred and fifty years later that mission still continues and many of the traditions and people of the last forty years that have been a part of Immanuel are included in this book.
In 1969, Pastor Ellis Kretschmer came to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and began the tradition of acknowledging a special Mother of the Year at Immanuel on Mother's Day. In 1970, Pastor Kretschmer requested that Bonnie Hull compose a poem depicting the life of each Mother of the Year to be used in her presentation on Mother's Day. Within this book you will find these poems, along with some of their recipes, since many of the mothers were such wonderful cooks.
