Legacy of Nebraska P.E.O.

P.E.O. slipped silently into Nebraska as early as 1874. Though quiet in its beginnings, Nebraska soon became known among P.E.O.s as "those rebels". But they were merely young women with immense foresight who sought changes that would solidify and grow the organization.

The road wasn't easy. They were met with modest resistance by those who sought the status quo. Still, with genteel voice and quiet persistence, Nebraska P.E.O.s nudged their beloved Sisterhood onto a path that not even the most imaginative among them could have envisioned.

They were women of Faith, of Love, Purity, Justice, and Truth. Armed with such treasures, how could they not be victorious?
Today, this international organization is treasured by over 10,000 Nebraska women of all ages. They are women helping women. They are P.E.O. And this is their story.

P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women CELEBRATE the advancement of women; EDUCATE women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College and MOTIVATE women to achieve their highest aspirations. These 680 pages chronicle the organization from its introduction into Nebraska in 1874 through 2015, with biographical sketches and photos of all 230 chapters, state presidents, the Nebraska P.E.O. Home, and more.
