The Black Book of Stories by Bruce Adam and its companion volume The White Book of Stories together combine to an intuitive look into of what are termed “Grey Areas.” The first thing you’ll notice about these two volumes is that neither one is absolutely black or white. Pure black is a mixture of all colors, and white light is the combination of all colors in the spectrum. Now think of nothing, which is actually the hardest thing to imagine. Perhaps absolutely nothing is a mixture of absolutely everything. It may sound strange, but some want us to believe it all came from (and still means) absolutely nothing. But it isn’t so simple; in any case, not all in black and white. It’s a grey area, where life is a kind of experiment to figure out what we believe: a place of choosing. In our age, we’ve expanded the grey area into absolutes, saying that matters once plain are now in question, and that the great mysteries of life have been solved. Now more than ever, this is an age of a need to properly divide the word of truth, and try to get it right, which we can do by endeavoring, as Pascal said, to “think well.” As an added bonus, each volume includes two new Jimmer stories.
I fell in love with black; it contained all color. It wasn't a negation of color... Black is the most aristocratic color of all... You can be quiet, and it contains the whole thing. ~ Louise Nevelson
