Maggie Ainsworth's rejection of everything connected with her previous, affluent lifestyle has offered only loneliness and indecision. Although divorced from an adulterous husband, the scar of humiliation remains. Never again will she allow her heart to influence her life. To escape boredom one lonely afternoon, happenstance takes her to a small neighborhood delicatessen. The elderly couple who own the place fascinate her.
