DETMAR™, patent pending, is a systematic approach to instructing students by submerging their senses through continuous communication and hands on experiences. It is the first curriculum to include detailed, step by step directions, for all students, including those with varying types of disabilities. DETMAR™ is an innovative approach to learning since it is directed education through modeling and repetition. DETMAR™ is recommended for all students in the following categories: •multiple disabilities
•severe disabilities
•grade school with moderate disabilities
•English language learners
•preschool
In addition, DETMAR™ utilizes RICS™, in every aspect of the program to ensure consistency, aid in comprehension, and increase communication. RICS™, Real Image Communication System, is a communication technique where real images are used as an aid to foster language. This is preferable to a drawing, because the students no longer have to have the cognitive ability to understand that those lines and colors represent an object. The students utilize real images instead of abstract drawings.
The purpose of DETMAR™ is to provide a curriculum that can be used from preschool to adults, especially those with severe or multiple disabilities, to instruct life skills including reading and simple mathematical concepts. Due to the nature of their disabilities, it takes a long time for these students to learn a concept. In order for these students to be successful, they require a program that submerges their senses through continuous communication and hands on experiences. In addition, they require consistent, multiple interactions on basic concepts daily throughout the year. That is what DETMAR™ ensures.
