When Daddies leave home, they miss the joy of watching their children grow. In 1944, Merle Krueger, married with two young sons, answered the draft notice and spent the next year-and-a-half away from home.

While he was on a ship in the Pacific, he connected with his sons through his drawings and letters home. Merle spent the rest of his free time creating beautiful sketches.
