Shot at a Brothel: The Spectacular Demise of Oscar Ringo Bonavena

Year of the Rooster is mostly a short story collection recorded from the memories of a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. The Stories are mingled with present day thoughts and actions so as to show how reccolections [recollections] of war are triggered and intrude into the lives of some soldiers for decades after they leave the war zone. The opening paragraphs describe the old veteran relaxing in Hawaii, living his idea of what being a tourist should be and thinking nonsense. Then, he is jolted into the past that he has needed to forget every day since 1969.
