Rewriting appears constantly throughout Theodore de Banville's poetic works. It is present not only in the Odes funambulesques, whose parodies of Hugo were published in the satirical magazines of the time, but also in many poems and collections "in the style of" that were intended to rehabilitate earlier literary forms.
