Rencontre et Reconnaissance: Les Essais ou le jeu du hasard et de la verite

This study of the writing in the Essais brings together meeting and recognition in their relation to chance and to a kind of truth arising therefrom. A multi-level analytical approach shows that the Essais, having the characteristics of a hapax, give rise to a discursive economy that constructs a universe of precarious links.
