Should Humans be Implanted with Microchips?

We live in a world where our lives are mostly dominated by technology. We rely on the internet for up to date information on demand, data storage, and communications; all our accounting and managing is done through databases and spreadsheets controlled by computers; and as much as two thirds of the nation suffers from nomophobia – a fear of being without a mobile phone- (Barnett, 2013) a figure which is expected to rise.

And technology continues to move forwards at a startling rate. Which leads onto a pressing question: where are we going next?

Could microchip implants for humans become the next big advancement in modern technology, something to change the world? Or do the costs and risks of having a microchip implant limit their potential on the technology market?
