Dr. Eddie Jarrod doubted there was a woman in the world he couldn't “make” if he put his mind to it. It was a special talent—the way other men were good at golf, chess or poker.

In a way, he was addicted to the chase. There was the first meeting, the sudden interest, the plan of action, the meticulous execution of it, during which he lost all sense of proportion and nothing mattered until he'd had what he wanted.

And if there was more at stake — like revenge against a colleague or an acquaintance through a wife or a girlfriend— so much the better. Then the thrill of conquest was intensified. Truly he was the wrecker, the seducer, the despoiler.
