Poetiques du descriptif dans le roman francais du XIXe siecle

This work considers description as a mute discourse which succeeds in inscribing an ethic or underling narrative into a text which can only be deciphered by the hermeneute. This study reveals the results of an enquiry into the ethical and aesthetic stakes which lie at the heart of novelistic description.
