How did German linguists think about Latin, the international lingua franca in the 17^th and 18^th centuries, and about Greek and Hebrew? Using wide-ranging sources and evidence, this study presents contemporary writings about genealogy, typology, borrowing, purism, and the use and teaching of foreign languages.
