A rare group of men has been hired to hunt down the remaining natives still hiding within the conquered territories of the Northeast. It is not the odious nature of this assignment that serves as the topic of "Cain Answered." The topic is the leadership these men are forced to follow and the inevitable effects toxicity can have within an organization.
"Cain Answered" is the second short story in the series titled: Short Stories from the Year 2065 and the Decades that Followed. Each of these stories exists within the world of James-Olson's novels, Farmers and Cannibals, But the Angels Never Came, Just After the Fall (April 2014), and Whom Cain Slew(December 2015). Neither the stories nor the novels are written in any particular order, however, the stories are interconnected featuring different characters and different viewpoints. "Cain Answered" features the hero of Farmers and Cannibals: Francisco Cain.
