Figurationen des Polnischen im Werk Theodor Fontanes

This study addresses the textual modeling of the Polish language in the works of Theodor Fontane, examining diachronic shifts as well as thematic and narrative constants. Against the backdrop of Poland’s conflicted connection with Prussian history, the author shows that across genres, Poland was made into a major political-aesthetic phenomenon in Fontane’s texts, a subject suspended between attraction and repulsion.
