Symbole fur Herrschaft und Konigtum in den Erzahlungen von Saul und David

English summary: This study examines the imagery of power and kingship as contained in the books of Samuel, with reference to the first kings of Israel, in other words to Saul and David. The study describes well- known symbols such as anointing and the pastoral image; however it is the less commonly known symbols such as the tiara, the king's clothing and his mounts which are more closely examined and questions asked about additional symbols which have hitherto been overlooked. The monarchy in Israel, and therefore also its imagery, can be seen in the context of royal ideology and the sovereign symbols of the Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Canaanite worlds. Accordingly, these regions have been incorporated into each topic for the purposes of comparison. Last but not least, the question remains as to how far such representations are merely literary or whether a historical background should be assumed. German description: Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die Symbolik fur Herrschaft und Konigtum, wie sie in den Samuelbuchern im Blick auf die ersten Konige Israels, d.h. im Blick auf Saul und David, verwendet wird. Dabei werden die bekannteren Symbole wie die Salbung oder das Hirtenbild dargestellt, vor allem aber werden die weniger gelaufigen Symbole wie das Diadem, die Kleidung oder die Reittiere des Konigs untersucht und wird auch nach bisher nicht beachteter Symbolik gefragt. Das Konigtum in Israel und damit auch seine Symbolik stehen im Kontext der Konigsideologie und der Herrschaftssymbole in der agyptischen, mesopotamischen und kanaanaischen Umwelt. Dementsprechend werden diese Bereiche zu jedem der Themen vergleichend mit einbezogen. Nicht zuletzt stellt sich jeweils die Frage, wieweit die Darstellungen nur literarisch sind oder ein historischer Hintergrund anzunehmen ist.
