Parmenides

English summary: From Parmenides (c. 515 to 455 BCE), who together with Anaximander and Heraclitus were the most important of the pre-Socratic philosophers and founder of the Eleatic school of philosophy, only one work, a verse treatise in the form of a "teaching poem," has survived in a fragmentary form. The fragmentary work is counted as one of the founding documents of western philosophy, and not simply because of its influence on, and mediation through, Plato. In his interpretation of Parmenides' poem, which first appeared in 1934, the politician and philosopher Kurt Riezler (1882-1955) undertook to legitimate on a philosophical level that the factual relationship between "being" and "appearance" as one of interdependence. The work contains both a Greek and German text and was edited with an afterword by Hans-Georg Gadamer. German description: Von Parmenides (um 515-455 v. Chr.), dem zusammen mit Anaximander und Heraklit bedeutendsten Denker der Vorsokratik und Begrunder der Schule der Eleaten, ist ein in Versen abgefasstes "Lehrgedicht" erhalten.
