The Transfer of Modernity: Architectural Modernism in Palestine 1923-1948

In the 1920s, architectural Modernism became the predominant form of expression for the Jewish community in Mandatory Palestine, where it gained acceptance faster than in most European countries. In Tel Aviv, the so-called ´White City´ emerged as a modern building ensemble of extraordinary density. This volume explores the prevalence of modernist architecture in Palestine with respect to the underlying processes of transfer.
