Learning from the Cinema: International Perspectives on Film Education

From cultural film to commercial film, cinema has played a role in personality formation since its very beginnings. All the same, the school still sees itself in conflict: should film be used as a medium and a subject of education, or rather be rejected as a medium of mass culture? Recently, the film business, the academic world, as well as cultural and educational institutions have all been pushing the question of film education in schools. What methods and media are used here? How important are institutions like the film museum, the municipal cinema, the film academy, or the university?
