At first glance, the paintings of German artist Robert Klümpen (born 1973) seem to be innocuous landscapes. Soon, however, a nagging mood of dread emerges, as the artist orchestrates deliberately artificial, excessive colorationputrid greens, hazy purples and sanguine orangescoupled with a deliberate and precisely executed sketchiness.
