Andrea Tese : Inheritance

Inheritance is a meticulous narrative of 74 color photographs, made between 2010 and 2012, that replicates Tese's experiences as she cleaned out her grandparents' house following their deaths. The subject-matter here is intentionally mundane-suitcases, shoes, tools, books, food, flowerpots, dishes, furniture, Christmas decorations-and at first glance the images seem to be an unsentimental inventory of these objects as well as a celebration of the two beloved individuals who owned them. Yet a closer examination reveals Tese's own consciousness in the order and arrangement of these things, proof of her role as an interpreter who evokes the past while imagining the future.
