The PIC Regulation (Prior Informed Consent) also known as Rotterdam Convention governs the import and export of certain hazardous chemicals and determines the import and export obligations to be fulfilled by companies. The Regulation contains a list of chemicals that trigger a reporting requirement in the respective country of destination prior to export. Another list defines chemicals the export of which requires the written consent of the national authority of the importing country. It is also ensured that chemicals can only be imported into the Community if they are subject to an import decision by the EU.
