The colonization of Nigeria by the British was like a fence between the lives of the people before and after its arrival. The influence of that fence was so huge that the people of Nigeria struggled daily to deal with a new way of life which threatened their cultures with extinction. They had one choice to make if they wanted to live: cross the fence and face the future. Gaining independence was like removing the fence. The people struggled to adjust to freedom again, but this time with a new found life. They did their best to sustain their new ways, but after a few years the result was a country in the state of a political turmoil and the Biafran war.
