Severomorsk

Severomorsk is a closed town in Murmansk Oblast, Russia, located about 25 kilometers (16 mi) north of Murmansk along the Kola Bay. Population: 50,076 (2010 Census preliminary results); 55,102 (2002 Census); 62,120 (1989 Census). This is the main administrative base of the Russian Northern Fleet. Severomorsk has the largest drydock on the Kola Peninsula.It was founded in the second half of the 19th century as the settlement of Vayenga (Ваенга). On April 18, 1951, it was elevated in status to that of a town under oblast jurisdiction and given its present name.
