Lessing wasn't specialized in writing fables. But his name is closely connected to fable style. He successively wrote three volumes of prose fables and a dozen verse fables. Half of them were originated from ancient fables and the other half were created by himself. Most of his fables are about animals. He wanted to not only entertain people but also educate people with those fables. So his works are short but powerful.
