About the Author: Dr.S.D.Gokhale has a Masters Degree from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and Ph.D. in social sciences from Kashi Vidyapeeth, banaras. He has long distinguished career in social welfare as an academician and practitioner. He has held several important positions including Asst.Secretary general of Asia and Pacific Region of International council on Social welfare, UN and UNICEF Advisor to government of Iran and SriLanka, Asst.Director of social welfare, Social Welfare Advisor to government of India, and Executive Secretary & Vice-President, Indain Council of Social welfare. He is member of the eminent persons Committee appointed by the Secretary General Of United Nations and he is the second Indian to be invited to address the UN General Assembly, Director of the UN Banyan Foundation and Member of the governing Board of UN Institute in Malta.
