Special Needs Education in Mathematics: New Trends, Problems and Possibilities

This book examines recent and on-going Nordic research and development in teaching and learning mathematics for those pupils with mathematical difficulties. The topics discussed include: the learning environment and social setting, learning communities and teaching approaches, and creative learning that contrasts traditions of rote and imitative learning. Relations between test anxiety, working memory, and pupils' self-image are discussed, along with inclusion and the right of every student to understand and enjoy mathematics.
