Es novelista, traductor y años ha sido y sigue siendo periodista. Recibió el Premio Internacional de Periodismo Rey de España (1992) y como narrador, en Francia, los premios Charles Brisset y Alberto-Benveniste. Ha publicado las novelas: Carta del fin del mundo; El converso; Una belleza convulsa y Mi nombre es Jamaica. Y los ensayos La apopeya de los locos: españoles en la Revolución Francesa; Las naves del tiempo y Vidas exageradas. Ha sido redactor de Cambio 16 y TVE, y colaborador de El Mundo, El Periódico de Catalunya, El País, Le Monde, InfoLibre y otros medios.
