Abel Kaplan conoce a Eva, el amor de su vida mientras estudia historia en la universidad. La familia judía de ella lo acoge como a uno más, y por primera vez, Abel siente que ha encontrado su lugar. Sin embargo, la ausencia de hijos y su frustración al ver que su carrera de escritor no termina de despegar, hacen que la relación se desmorone.
