Between 2,137 and 1,080 B.C., Egypt experienced a second age of brilliance in which its economic and cultural dominance in the region was enriched and expanded by the conquest of important territories. During this period Egypt had to fight off foreign invaders such as the Hyksos. Meanwhile, an extraordinary effusion of art and science took place.
