According to mythology, the foundation of Rome on the 21st April, 753 B.C. marks the beginning of a historical age which spans twelve centuries. Descendants of the Etruscans, Greeks and other Mediterranean peoples, the Romans first exerted their military power from the centre of the Italian peninsula and later continued to Greece and Hispania.
