Until the Turks reached power in the year 1055, a number of different caliphs and sultanates governed over the Muslims in Asia, Africa and Europe. During these years, the Islamic Empire became the main cultural and economic focus for the rest of the world. Its territories served as a bridge between China and Medieval Europe.
