Charlemagne: THE MIDDLE AGES I

During Charlemagne's reign, another attempt was made at unifying Europe. The French monarch, who would later be made emperor, took Rome and laid the foundations of the Holy Roman Empire. With the establishment of marches or border regions, he managed to keep the invading Arabs and Saxons at bay.
