Humberto Rivas: PHotoBolsillo

Argentine photographer Humberto Rivas (1937-2009) has been called the photographer of silence. Rivas fled Argentina's military coup in 1976 for Spain, where he lived until his death. He was commissioned to produce portraits of some of Spain's best known Catalonians—Joan Miró, Antoni Tápies, among them. Whether portrait, landscape or still life, the artist's works invariably betray his somber gaze.
