Manifiestos vanguardistas

Gathering for the first time the foundational works of the various avant-garde Latin American literary movements of the 20th century, this compendium features nearly 30 works, each with an introduction that places them in their context. The book examines movements such as Creationism (typified by the Chilean poet Vicente Huidobro), Ultraism (exemplified by Jorge Luis Borges), Stridentism (of which the poetry of Manuel Maples Arce was a notable representation), Cuban “Negrism,” and Nothing-ism. These and other movements were indicative of a sea change in Latin American literature and poetry, representing as they did a new aesthetic and work ethic, and the pieces compiled in this book serve as a map to that literary revolution.

El libro examina movimientos como el creacionismo (tipificado por el poeta chileno Vicente Huidobro), el ultraísmo (demostrado por la obra de Jorge Luis Borges), el estridentismo (del cual la poesía de Manuel Maples Arce fue un ejemplo notable), el negrismo cubano y el nadaísmo colombiano. Éstos y otros movimientos fueron indicios de un cambio radical en la literatura y poesía latinoamericana, representando una nueva estética y ética de trabajo, y las obras recopiladas aquí sirven como un mapa de esta revolución literaria.
