Transfiguration: The Cultural Heritage of Medieval Rituals

The Centre for the Study of the Cultural Heritage of Medieval Rituals held its first annual conference in December 2002 in Copenhagen, and the 15 papers here are reworked from presentations there. They explore how the two concepts of genre and ritual intersect in such contexts as carnivalesque traditions and their literary appropriation in Sottie theater, a 20th-century operatic portrayal of a medieval saint, concert applause, and a Bob Dylan concert. The volume serves as a special issue of Transfiguration: Nordic Journal for Christianity and the Arts, vol. 1-2 (2003). Only authors are indexed. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
